  1. Background

 Buddhist Foundation for Community Development (BFCD) officially received its registration approval from the Ministry of Interior (MoI) of the Royal Government of Cambodia on 12 January 2009. Since its establishment, the organization has been actively working in most of the provinces in Cambodia, with its focus on Siem Reap, Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Thom, Kampot, and Svay Rieng in multiple fields such as livelihoods enhancement, natural resources management, agriculture and livestock development, eco-tourism, business skills and employment, health and education, and climate change.

Improved living condition, respect and dignified life for poor and vulnerable people in Cambodia.

  1. Mission

 BFCD collaborates with local people, government agencies, private sector, and international/national development partners for managing water resources, agriculture, forestry and other land-use in Cambodia and developing vocational skills of the poor and vulnerable people. .

  1. Goal

 Improve the quality of life of the poor and vulnerable people in Cambodia by providing services that are gender-responsive, transparent, accountable, sustainable and equitable.

  1. Program Activities

BFCD has implemented the following program activities in various provinces of Cambodia:

  • Natural Resources Management: Forest management, tree plantation, restoration of land, and environmental protection
  • Agricultural Production: rice cultivation, livestock and poultry raising, marketing of agricultural products, and value-chain development.
  • Vocational and Life Skills Development: Business literacy program, Vegetable and fruit processing skills, Motorcycle repair skills training, Salon and beauty skills training, Air conditioner installation and maintenance skills, Barista skills training, Plumbing and electrician skills, Computer skills training, and English language training
  • Education and Awareness: Health and Education, Water resources management, agro-forestry, disaster and climate change, and environment conservation.
  1. Staffing and Capacity Areas

 BFCD has a team of experts, its board members, advisors and a team of 28 staff members. The staff include an Executive  Director, Administrative and finance personnel, Program coordinators, and Agriculture and business experts. The staff members are deployed across eight provinces. The organization also includes subject experts as per the growing needs of the organization.  

The organization has a multidisciplinary team with clearly defined roles and functions, including:

  • Project management and leadership, responsible for overall coordination, strategic oversight, and donor liaison.
  • Operations team, providing financial management, procurement, logistics, and administrative support.
  • Technical team, with expertise in climate-smart agriculture and agricultural value chains, livelihood enhancement, community engagement and mobilization, marketing of agricultural products, IT administration, and digital-focused activities.
  • Training specialists, responsible for curriculum development, Training of Trainers (ToT), and delivery of business literacy and digital training programs.
  • Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning, and Knowledge Management (MEL-KM) team, covering data collection and analysis, learning and adaptive management, communications and media products, facilitation of workshops, and coordination of multi-stakeholder platforms.

In addition, the BFCD team brings the strong and relevant experience in the design and implementation of business literacy and entrepreneurship programs, particularly in rural and agricultural contexts. Those key strengths include:

  • Proven experience in delivering business literacy and entrepreneurship training for farmers, producer groups, and smallholder-based enterprises.
  • In-depth understanding of Cambodia’s agricultural value chains, rural market systems, and smallholder challenges.
  • Application of practical, participatory, and learner-centered training methodologies tailored to local contexts, literacy levels, and digital readiness.

With these, BFCD has a solid track record in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and reporting of the donor-funded projects

  1. Work Experiences

BFCD has received support from the multiple funding agencies and partners, including the UNDP-supported Integrated Natural Resource Management (INRM) Project of the Ministry of Environment, Habitat For Humanity Cambodia, Asian Development Bank, IFAD and multiple generous donors worldwide.  where it delivered farmer training, facilitated business planning and development processes, and supported community groups to improve livelihoods and sustainability.

Environmental Conservation – Supported two Community Protected Areas (CPAs) in Chorm Thlork and O Panha, on capacity building on environment management, forestry conservation, planning, M&E, Business development and financial sustainability.
